I attended BCS from grade 2 to grade 12, and I was present when the school first opened its doors. Looking back, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible community of staff, students, and parents that supported me academically and spiritually throughout my time there.

One of the biggest blessings of attending BCS was the relationships I built with my teachers. They truly cared about my academic progress, but they were also deeply invested in my personal and spiritual growth. They saw me as a unique individual, and they helped me develop my God-given talents and passions, in the classroom, and on sports and worship teams. Their support and encouragement gave me the confidence to continue pursuing my goals long after high school, and I am forever grateful for their impact on my life. Several of those teachers continue to speak into my life to this day.

One of the biggest blessings of attending BCS was the relationships I built with my teachers. They truly cared about my academic progress, but they were also deeply invested in my personal and spiritual growth.

The academic rigor at BCS prepared me well for postsecondary studies. My high school teachers modeled a love for learning and instilled in me a curiosity about the world around me. I was challenged to think critically and to approach learning from a Christ-centered point of view, while at the same time, equipped to explore and wrestle with a variety of worldviews as I entered into university. I developed strong study habits, time-management skills, and spiritual disciplines which have served me well throughout my academic and professional career.

One of the most formative experiences I had at the school was a short-term mission trip to Guatemala. Our grade eleven class had the opportunity to see ways that the gospel was thriving in a different part of the world, to participate in the work God was already doing in communities in Guatemala, all the while having my own narrow and privileged view of the world challenged. I began to take ownership for my beliefs, and began to see the ways that Western culture had distorted the gospel. Many of the relationships I built during that trip continue to this day, and I continue to be blessed and discipled by many other BCS students I have reconnected with over the years.

While I was finishing up university with a teaching degree, my high school Chemistry teacher reached out to me about an opportunity to work at the school. I never would have guessed that I would have been back at the same school I grew up in, but being able to pour into students in the same ways that I was as a student has been a true joy and privilege. It has been so encouraging to see the same care and dedication from my colleagues that I experienced when I was a student, and I feel honored to be able to carry on the legacy of academic excellence and discipleship that has developed and grown over the years.

Looking back on my time at BCS as both a student and a staff member, I am grateful for the incredible community that invested in me and helped shape me into the person I am today. I am excited to see how the school will continue to disciple future generations of students to learn to be imitators of Christ, carrying His love into the world.
